Art Students Complete Mosaic Projects

For their final art project of the school year, students completed a unit on mosaics. Did you know that according to the Encyclopedia Britannica, the earliest known mosaics date back to the ancient Greeks in the 5th century BCE?

Earlier this year, Head of the Visual and Performing Arts Department, Ms. Johnson explained, “to prepare for working [with] mosaic tiles and tools...students are practicing mosaic making techniques with paper projects. Once they have practiced the techniques they will move on to making mosaics with mosaic tiles.”

By the end of the year, middle and high school students had developed the skills needed to work with tiles, using the small pieces to create designs and pictures all their own. Enjoy these photos of Ms. Johnson’s classes working on their mosaic projects.
