This weekend's graduation festivities were truly special. Students, alumni and staff both current and former, gathered together to celebrate our graduating class. Commencement weekend kicked off with an informal barbecue dinner on campus. During this time, seniors and staff gathered together to share memories, laugh and reminisce on their time at SCA.
On Saturday, our formal Baccalaureate Dinner was held in the beautiful, historic Valentine Mansion, right here in Springfield. Guests enjoyed dinner, an address by Head of School, Bridget Choo, and a short theatrical performance led by graduate, Gina Planas. Gina was later given the Arts Department award for excellence in the field of visual and performing arts. Departmental Awards were also given to Kimberly Williams for English, Shamoya Berry for World Languages, Dalgenis Martinez for Science, Paola Llanos for History and Athletics and Math for Daniel Ogoro. In the final moments of the evening, senior superlatives as voted on by the class of 2019, were revealed.
Sunday afternoon was the big day. Russhawn Lewin, one of five seniors, who have attended SCA since 2012, gave an emotional Commencement address, speaking to each of his classmates in turn about what makes them uniquely themselves. Dr. Marcus Ware, our former Head of School, was the keynote speaker, and also addressed each of the graduates in turn. Congratulations to all of our graduates, and thank you to all who joined us this weekend.
