This past trimester our post-grads had the opportunity to visit the Islamic Society of Western Massachusetts for our history of Islam course.
We were able to meet with our friends from the Islamic Society, who graciously welcomed our group into their Mosque. The students experienced evening prayer and were able to ask the Imam questions about Islam and his personal approach to faith. A particular moment that struck our group was when the Imam told us that his hatred of injustice was a guiding reason for his decision to become an Imam. Our time at the Mosque was eye opening for our students and gave them a wonderful chance to connect with a culture different from their own and to see Islam from a different viewpoint than the mostly violent view that is shown in our world today.
